An epidemic is afflicting tens and possibly hundreds of Americans today. Fortunately there is a cure. Members of congress can recover from Bush Derangement Syndrome. Of course, the first step is to admit you have a problem.
Challenging every Republican election victory is now apparently a basic part of the Democratic and 'Progressive' party playbook. If Democrats don't win it must be because of election fraud and Republican dirty tricks. Rep. John Conyers (D) is claiming that there were, "numerous, serious election irregularities in the Ohio presidential election," all due to the, "intentional misconduct and illegal behavior" of Republican Secretary of State J. Kenneth Blackwell. Essentially the Ohio vote was rigged and we are about to certify a fraudulent election.
The choice of Rep. Stephanie Tubbs-Jones and Sen. Barbara Boxer to contest the election results today is a sad day in Democratic Party history. This is not an effort to 'count every vote', it is merely an attempt to cast doubt and objection on the validity of Bush's reelection.
I wonder if it has occurred to some that undermining every election in which they lose might eventually have the effect of erroding democracy itself. Because the vote count is no longer enough to settle the election, only the results they want determine whether it was a fair election. I've got news for you, that's not democracy.
Thankfully there are some democrats who have still not succumbed to such partisan blindness. Will the party listen?

"I have concluded that objecting to the electoral votes from Ohio is the only immediate way to bring these issues to light by allowing you to have a two-hour debate to let the American people know the facts surrounding Ohio's election," Boxer wrote in a letter to Rep. Stephanie Tubbs Jones, D-Ohio, a leader of the Democratic effort.
